Set default sound output to speaker on iPhone

If you prefer to take calls via speaker mode, follow these steps to make speaker the default audio output mode

On iPhone, you can manually change your default sound output settings for all calls to speaker mode, which will make your captioned calls through CaptionMate easier. Please note: this will also change the default option for calls made or received through your regular phone dialer as well.

To change your default sound output setting to speaker on iPhone

  1. From your home screen, open the Settings app

  2. Tap Accessibility

  3. Tap Touch

  4. Scroll down and tap Call Audio Routing

  5. Select Speaker

On Android phones, audio should automatically go over speaker for CaptionMate calls. If you are not getting call audio over speaker on Android, please reach out to our support team via email at [email protected] for assistance.

If you ever need to change your sound output setting (for example, to a Bluetooth device) for an individual call on CaptionMate, you can do so easily by following the steps below.

To switch between sound output modes during a call

  1. During a live call, tap the Audio icon on the bottom toolbar, to the left of the end call icon (see picture below).

  2. Select your preferred sound output mode

  3. Tap the caption screen and the selected sound output mode will be displayed
