CaptionMate has two different communication channels: Classic and Cloud. Depending on the strength of your WiFi or cellular connection, one channel may work better than the other. If you experience connectivity issues, we recommend changing your channel to see if it improves the quality of your connection.
Please note before switching to Classic: making outbound calls over the Classic Channel has extra steps. That's because Classic Channel routes call audio to the regular Phone app, then prompts you to go back to CaptionMate for captions. (Scroll to the bottom of the article for those steps).
-----------------------------
To change your communication channel in CaptionMate
Open the CaptionMate app
Tap Settings
Under Calls, tap Channel
Select the channel you would like to switch to
You will be prompted to reset your call forwarding to ensure that incoming calls are captioned. Tap Next
Select your phone carrier
Tap Activate
Follow the prompt to call the indicated number
Depending on your carrier, you may see a confirmation page
Tap Close
-----------------------------
To place an outbound call over the Classic Channel, review the steps below:
When you dial any number, you will first see a pop-up to call your CaptionMate number. This is normal for the channel. You will still be connected to the number you want to call. To finish dialing the call, tap the pop-up:
Once you have tapped the pop-up, your call will be connected to the original number you dialed. You will need to return to the app to see your captions. Tap the next pop-up that appears to open CaptionMate.
On iPhone, it will appear as a banner at the top:
On Android, it can also appear to the side:
Once you return to CaptionMate, the call will continue normally.
